Kovalam is an internationally renowned beach, a favorite haunt of tourists, with a beautiful bay of calm waters ideal for sea bathing.

Best Season To Visit : September Ė March.

Where It is : Situated 16kms south of the city center.

How to reach Kovalam Beach : By road: buses ply to Kovalam, at half-hourly intervals through out the day from the Thampanoor bus stand.

Sightseeing In Kovalam Beach :

Beaches: Light house beach (the most popular beach. Got its name from the Lighthouse perched atop the Kurumkkal rock on the southern tip of the beach).
Samudra beach, Hawa beach( for Eveís beach, the only top-less beach in the country, once. Now top less swimming prohibited)
Donít Miss: the vista from the light house, Subanthing , Swimming, herbal body toning massages (pick an authorized one for that) and cycling along the beach.

Tips for travelers : Follow the guidelines of life guards. Donít litter the beaches, Avoid quacks, Avoid using drugs and liquor.

Sights Around Kovalam Beach :

Thiruvallom : 9 km north to Kovalam, where killi and Karamana rivers join the Arabian sea, where it forms a backwater. Boat Club offers a variety of cruises in the black water for tourists.

Vizhinjam : This idyllic fishing village south to Kovalam, was once the capital of the attraction.

Poovar: beautiful beach 2km south of Kovalam, was once the capiptal of the Aye kings. The cave temple here is an attraction.

Chowara: a serene beach, 8km south of Kovalam.
