Patiala remains famous for its Maharajas, heritage, jootis and parandis, and of course the Patiala Peg. The city lies just 70 km from Chandigarh and makes for a good day trip. There’s a lot to see hear, starting with the Qila Mubarak and its museum housing Maharaja Mohinder Singh’s chandeliers and Maharaja Bhupinder Singh’s silver carriage.
Then there’s the citadel: Qila Androon. Moti Bagh Palace is now the National Institute of Sports but its Museum of Sports is worth to visit. Sheesh Mahal and its Museum of Medals is another must-see. The religiously inclined may also visit Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib. For jootis and parandis, try Adalat Bazaar along the wall of Qila Mubarak.
