Think shikaras and the Dal Lake comes to mind, but Chandigarh’s Sukhna Lake is no less a boating venue, with shikaras from Kashmir being its latest attraction. The 3 sq. km lake, which was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Rivulet, has one of the best rowing channels in Asia. Le Corbusier had anticipated that the city folk would be drawn to the lake for the ‘care of body and spirit’ and sure enough every morning and evening hundreds of men and women turn up to walk, jog or just sit by the waters.
The thousands of migratory birds who flock to it every winter are proof of the Sukhna’s wholesome environment. after nourishing their souls, visitors to the Lake can also indulge their taste buds at the Lake Cafetaria.
