PALANI - Dhandayuthapani Temple
Palani is an another major pilgrim centre for Hindus. This temple town is located in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu. Palani is famous for its famous Dhandayuthapani Temple dedicated to lord Subramanya. Locally it is known as Palani Murugan Temple. Palani is one of the six abodes of Subramanya, the son of Shiva. This temple is situated on the top of the Palani hills. There are so many steps from the ground to reach the hill top temple.
According to legend, lord Subramanya got angry with his Father and mother because of their judgment on him for offering a fruit. In a competition, his brother Ganesh got the fruit from his parents. So Subramanya got angry and went out and stand on this Palani hill. Thereafter a temple was built to worship him on the hill top. There are some other little temples on the hill on the way to the hill top. Rope-car facilities are available for the convenience of the devotees.
Thai poosam, Shivarathri, Panguni Uthram are the famous festivals celebrated here. Devotees take their 'Kavadis' to this temple from their home even by walking. 'Panchamirtham', a sweet fruit mixture is offered to the devotees who are coming to worship Subramanya in the Palani temple. The City corporation arrange well transport facility for people during the season times.
