SEPTEMBER 1-14 , SUECA PAELLA FESTIVAL, SPAIN

This festival is essentially a religious event dedicated to the Virgen de Sales, but it's the paella-a dish made of rice, saffron, meat or seafood and olive oil-that takes centrestage. The town of Suecaisjn full fiesta mode during the first fortnight of September with professions, dancing and I music, but the last day is I the most important. On I this day a paella contest is held and a giant dish of the delicacy is cooked. Only a 'round of feasting ' can follow this bout of cooking. SEPTEMBER 1-3, OWARA KAZE-NO-BON, JAPAN

People of Yatsua-Machi stop work for three days and go singing and dancing through the town. They light paper lanterns and sing the Ecchu Owara Bushi folk song to the accompaniment of traditional Japanese musical instruments. For more informations please visit : www.jnto.go.jp

SEPTEMBER 14, MID-AUTUMN MOONCAKE FESTIVAL

This festival commemorates a 14th-century uprising against the Mongols when the rebels communicated through bits of paper inserted in mooncakes. Vancouver is fast becoming a major cultural hub and its fringe festival is a good excuse to visit this vibrant city. SEPTEMBER 27 GREAT GORILLA RUN , LONDON

If you love gorillas and are in London on this date, do take part in the Gorilla Run. Of course, you can participate just to get into a gorilla costume (compulsory) and clown around. SEPTEMBER 10, ST. GEORGE'S CAYE DAY, BELIZE

On this day in 1788, a few British soldiers and settlers defeated the Spanish at Belize. This victory is celebrated in true Caribbean style with concerts and parades. SEPTEMBER 5-7, DANUBE ISLAND FESTIVAL,VIENNA

Pegged as Europe's largest free outdoor party, this festival features over 2,000 artists. The venue is the Donauinsel Island on the Danube and performances are distributed across 16 stages.
